Our History

From Family Residence to Luxury Inn

Burrus House Inn was the vision of Jack Burrus, a lifelong resident of Manteo, NC, who was passionate not just about his hometown, but also about this unique waterfront property. Jack dreamed of converting his family cottage to an inn so that others could one day share in his enjoyment of waterfront life on Shallowbag Bay. Embarking on this dream, Jack sold a portion of the original property to a developer and relocated the cottage structure an acre north to its current location. What stands today is the product of that dream, with Jack’s daughter at the helm. We’ve embarked upon a new chapter, and look forward to sharing it with you.
